The story of the Las Vegas billionaire Steve Wynn


Steve Wynn is possibly the most flamboyant real estate developer in the USA and his list of developments is as impressive as any other. He has created a series of brands within themselves that have been manifested as hotels and resorts including The Golden Nugget, The Mirage, Treasure Island, The Bellagio, Wynn Las Vegas, The Encore and many others. Forbes magazine estimates his net worth to be just shy of $3 billion and he has a number of developments in progress around the world.

He was born in 1942 and was the son of Michael and Zelma Wynn. The name Wynn was anglicised from Weinberg was introduced to mitigate against anti-Jewish feeling. Michael Wynn operated a number of Bingo gaming operations and at the time of his death had amassed a sizable amount of gambling debts. Steve took on the position of heading the family business after his father died, and after receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Ivy League University of Pennsylvania managed to think quickly to negotiate a deal that involved creating a win-win situation involving the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes and the influential banker Edward Parry Thomas.
